Six infants died in a fire in Delhi's baby day care centre

Delhi, May 26 (HS): A fire broke out in a two-story baby day care centre located in Vivek Vihar, Yamunapar (East Delhi), in the national capital, Delhi, on Saturday night. Six infants were badly burned in the fire. He died. According to the fire department, a total of 12 children were rescued during this period; one child is on a ventilator, and five children are admitted to the hospital. This centre is in Block B of Vivek Vihar.

According to the fire department, everyone has been admitted to the nearby Gupta Nursing Home and East Delhi Advanced Nursing Home by ambulance. As soon as the information was received, the fire brigade and police teams reached the spot. The rescue team took out all the infants through the window. The fire department brought the fire under control after an hour of hard work. After the accident, the operator and employees of the centre absconded. Parents were also not given any information. The police are trying to trace the parents.

District Police Deputy Commissioner Surendra Chaudhary said that information about the fire in the baby care centre was received at 11:30 on Saturday night. Immediately, the fire department and police team reached the spot. People saw smoke coming from the ground floor of the care centre. Within no time, the fire reached the upper floors. The flames engulfed the entire building. The fire brigade and police broke the windows on the back side of the care centre and took out all the newborns one by one. As soon as the newborns were brought out, they were admitted to another hospital. Initially, the cause of the fire was said to be a short circuit.

Police say that as soon as the information was received, a team was sent to the spot. By then, the fire had spread to Baby Care New Born Hospital, located at C-54, Vivek Vihar, and its surrounding buildings. An infant had died before the fire. All 12 newborns were brought out with the help of the fire department and others and shifted to East Delhi Advanced NICU Hospital, D-237, Vivek Vihar. Six of these infants were declared dead. All seven bodies have been sent to GTB Hospital for a postmortem. The owner of the hospital, Naveen Kichi, lives in Paschim Vihar. Action is being taken against him.

Eyewitnesses say that a four-story and a two-story building located on either side of the centre were also hit by the fire. During this, the oxygen cylinders kept in the hospital fell away with a loud bang. One cylinder fell on the ITI campus, located 100 metres away.
