'Garvi Gujarat' in Delhi Earns Three-Star GRIHA Rating
Eco-Friendly Building Recognized for Green Initiatives and Climate Mitigation
Ahmedabad — The iconic 'Garvi Gujarat' building in New Delhi has been awarded a three-star rating by the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA). This recognition highlights the building's contribution to reducing emission intensity through sustainable practices, aligning with India's climate change mitigation strategies as outlined in the “Nationally Determined Contributions.”
Developed by TRAI and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, the GRIHA rating system was adopted as the national standard for green buildings in 2007. It serves as a crucial tool for evaluating and promoting environmentally friendly construction practices.
Garvi Gujarat Bhavan, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2019, has met all the criteria to become a green building. The structure incorporates several eco-friendly systems, including a vertical garden, solar panels, a sewage treatment plant (STP), electrochromic smart glass, a water harvesting system, and solid waste management facilities. Spread over approximately 20,000 square feet, Garvi Gujarat Bhavan continues to be a major attraction for visitors five years after its inauguration.
The building's three-star GRIHA rating underscores its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, setting an example for green building practices in India.
