Six Children Drown in Son River Near Tumba Village, Bihar; One Still Missing

Dehri-on-Sone, October 6 – In a tragic incident in Bihar's Rohtas district, six children, including five boys and one girl from the same family and their relatives, drowned while bathing in the Son River near Tumba village in Rohtas police station area. The bodies of six victims have been recovered by late evening, while search efforts continue for one missing girl. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team is actively involved in the search operation.

The victims, identified as Abhay Kumar (10), Vivek Kumar (12), and Raju Kumar (12) from Tumba village, were accompanied by their relatives from Ranchi, Jharkhand, namely Pawan Kumar (7), his sisters Navya Kumari (13), Nidhi Kumari (12), and Gungun Kumari (8). Navya Kumari's body is yet to be recovered.

The group had gone to the Son River with their family and some other children for a bath. The incident occurred when one of the children slipped into deeper waters, and as others attempted to rescue him, they too were pulled into the river's depths. While three children managed to escape and save themselves, the remaining seven were swept away. The bodies of five victims, including two boys and two girls from Ranchi and Abhay from Tumba, have been recovered.

Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar confirmed the details, stating that Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Suryapratap Singh and Rohtas Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nikunj Bhushan are on-site. SDO Singh added that efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining body.

The tragic incident has plunged Tumba village into mourning, with the community grieving the loss of the young lives.
