Increased Orders and Transport Challenges Amidst Festive Season

Surat Textile Market Witnesses Surge in Demand, Transporters Struggle with Parcel Overload

Surat: The textile markets in Surat are currently experiencing an overwhelming surge in demand, leading to a pile-up of parcels from the textile markets to transport warehouses. Workers are struggling to keep up with the volume, lifting parcels from early morning until late at night, yet the backlog remains. To manage the overflow, transporters have started using both trucks and trains to send goods to external markets. Despite these efforts, parcels continue to stack up in the market.

Post-Diwali Orders Pouring In

Kamlesh Jain, a member of the Millennium Textile Traders Association, shared that parcels have been piling up in vacant market spaces for the past month. Due to the high demand, parcels often remain in the market for 4-5 days before they are dispatched. Jain noted that the demand is so strong that traders from external markets are already placing orders for after Diwali.

He mentioned that parcel handlers are working tirelessly, often without breaks for meals, as parcels keep moving until late at night. The strong demand for textiles has also boosted related sectors, including transport, dyeing, printing units, and grey cloth suppliers. Jain expects that while the market will reopen 5-7 days after Diwali, diamond workers who return to their villages might take longer to come back. However, he is confident that the demand will persist in the market.

Bihar and Jharkhand Markets Expect High Demand During Chhath Puja

Yuvraj Deshle, head of the Surat Textile Goods Transport Association, stated that the current dispatching volume is so high that both the market and transport warehouses are overflowing with parcels. He revealed that around 325 trucks are leaving daily for outside markets, along with three 20-25 coach trains already sent to Muzaffarpur and Patna. Another 20-coach train is scheduled for Thursday night, followed by a 25-coach train to Patna-Muzaffarpur on Friday. These goods are supplied to markets in Bihar and Jharkhand.

Deshle highlighted that Chhath Puja holds great significance in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, where there is a high demand for related clothing. The continuous inflow of parcels is due to the high demand from external markets, resulting in constant dispatches from Surat's wholesale textile businesses. He also mentioned that the transport association operates 24/7, including Sundays, to ensure that the flow of goods continues smoothly. The surge in demand is a positive sign for the Surat textile industry.
