Piyush Goyal Urges Industry to Focus on High-Quality Products for Global Competitiveness

New Delhi, 16 October :  Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday called upon the industrial sector to focus on creating high-quality products to tap into global markets. He emphasized that export competitiveness cannot be achieved solely through government subsidies or support.

Addressing the closing session of the inaugural Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) at the Taj Palace Hotel, Goyal paid tribute to the late industrialist Ratan Tata. He remarked that Ratan Tata led the group through challenging times and built it into a truly international conglomerate, making India proud with the group’s achievements.

Goyal stressed the need for producing high-quality products, noting that without this focus, it would be challenging to make India truly competitive. Speaking to industry leaders, he highlighted the Modi government’s efforts to create a quality ecosystem in India. He added that while the government is trying to encourage the industry to manufacture high-quality goods, it has been a “difficult” task to convince them to adopt this approach.

The Commerce Minister mentioned that the government initially faced strong opposition from the industry regarding quality control orders. He urged industry stakeholders to actively participate in establishing Brand India as a symbol of excellence, where products made in India are globally recognized for their superior quality.
