Stolen Gold Chain Recovered in Surat After 18 Years

Surat police have reunited a woman with her stolen gold chain, 18 years after it was snatched from her neck during the 2006 floods. The remarkable recovery highlights the dedication of the police in following up on old cases.

In 2006, the woman, who has not been identified, reported the theft of her gold chain to the police. Despite the chaos caused by the floods, authorities were able to apprehend the culprit and recover the stolen item. The chain, valued at Rs 12,000 at the time, was kept in police custody as part of the investigation.

The woman reportedly pursued the case in court for several years, seeking the return of her stolen property. Finally, in 2024, with the help of an online court order, the Surat police were able to return the gold chain to its rightful owner. The recovered chain, due to the increase in gold prices, is now valued at approximately Rs 1.20 lakh.

The woman expressed her gratitude to the police for their persistence in safeguarding her belongings and expressed her plans to use the recovered chain for her daughter's wedding. This heartwarming story serves as a testament to the commitment of the Surat police and the importance of pursuing legal channels to reclaim lost possessions.
