Surat Police Crackdown on Modified Bikes Creating Noise Pollution

Surat city police launched a major crackdown on Wednesday against motorcycles with modified silencers that create noise pollution. The drive comes after a recent order by newly appointed Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot to take strict action against such vehicles.

Following a Supreme Court directive, Commissioner Gehlot ordered a special campaign across all police stations in the city. Police officers fanned out across Surat to identify and seize vehicles with modified silencers.

Over 3,000 such vehicles were seized in a single day, with a fine of more than Rs 17 lakh collected from violators. This comes in contrast to the previous year, where Zone 4 Deputy Commissioner Vijay Gurjar reported seizing only 200-300 vehicles with modified silencers in the entire year.

The police department has warned of stricter action in the coming days against riders who indulge in reckless driving or modify their vehicles. This crackdown is part of a larger effort by Commissioner Gehlot to address traffic congestion and crime in the city.
