Revelations in Gujarat Vidhansabha on Teacher Shortage in Schools

Poor Condition of Education System in Gujarat: Schools Running with Only One Teacher

In a shocking revelation, it has been found that 54 schools in Junagadh district and 7 schools in Porbandar district of Gujarat are functioning with just one teacher. The state's Education Minister has given a written reply to the Aam Aadmi Party MLA Hemant Ahir during the Question Hour in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. The issue was raised by the party ahead of the elections, and it has now become a topic of discussion in the Vidhansabha.

According to the Education Minister, 46 schools in Devbhoomi Dwarka district, 8 schools in Jamnagar district, 16 schools in Kalyanpur taluka, and 12-12 schools in Khambhalia and Bhanvad talukas are also running on just one teacher. This means that a large number of students are getting education under very challenging circumstances.

Apart from the shortage of teachers, the government has also admitted that there is a lack of facilities in government primary schools in Porbandar and Junagadh districts. As per the admission made by the Education Department, there is a shortage of rooms in 127 schools in Junagadh district and 9 schools in Porbandar district. Furthermore, 7 schools in Porbandar district do not have an electricity connection, and 54 schools in Junagadh district and 7 schools in Porbandar district do not have boundary walls.

The poor condition of the education system in Gujarat is a matter of concern, and it needs urgent attention from the authorities. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that students get a quality education, and it must take immediate steps to address the issues faced by schools in the state.
