Bhuj, Rajkot Airports Closed for Civilian Flights Amid Rising Tensions
Ahmedabad, May 7, 2025 — In the wake of India’s missile strikes on terrorist camps inside Pakistan under “Operation Sindoor,” authorities on Wednesday morning shut down civilian flight operations at Rajkot and Bhuj airports in Gujarat.
Bhuj Airport, located in the border district of Kutch, and Rajkot International Airport have been placed on high alert. Rajkot District Collector Prabhav Joshi confirmed, “We have received a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) stating that Rajkot International Airport will remain closed for civilian flights for the next three days.”
Another official stated that both airports will remain operational round-the-clock exclusively for military aircraft during this period.
Air India, responding to the volatile situation, announced suspension of its services to several airports, including Rajkot, Bhuj, and Jamnagar, until noon today. In a statement on social media platform ‘X’, the airline said, “Due to the current situation, all Air India flights to Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot have been cancelled until 12 noon on May 7. We regret the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption.”
The move reflects heightened security protocols as tensions remain high along the western border following India's retaliatory action for the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
