As Ganeshotsav festivities reach their zenith across the country, a tragic incident has cast a pall over celebrations in Rajkot, Gujarat. An uncle and his nephew drowned while immersing a Lord Ganesha idol in the Aji Dam. A Solemn Twist to a Joyous Festival
The fifth day of Ganeshotsav, traditionally marked by the immersion of Lord Ganesha idols, turned tragic for a family from Maninagar Society on Kotharia Road in Rajkot. The uncle-nephew duo ventured into the water to perform the immersion rites but sadly drowned in the deeper parts of the dam. The fire brigade was alerted and arrived at the scene to recover the bodies after a search operation.
Identifying the Deceased
Initial investigations identified the deceased as Rambhai and Harsh, who were maternal uncle and nephew. Their bodies have been sent to Rajkot Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Community in Mourning
The tragic deaths have left the family and community in a state of shock and sorrow. "A mountain of sorrow has fallen on the family due to the death of two people from the same family," said a relative, encapsulating the sentiments of those who knew them.
