Mumbai police have arrested two youths from Rajkot in connection with the theft of a Fortuner car from outside a Toyota showroom in the Khar (West) area of Mumbai. The Khar police, with the help of the Rajkot Crime Branch, apprehended Deep Ramniklal Aghera (28) and his friend Rahul Garia.
According to the police, the Fortuner car was stolen on the night of June 25 while it was parked in the Khar area. During the investigation, the accused were identified based on CCTV footage. Following this, Khar police's PI Hanumant Kumbhare had been in Rajkot with his team for the past three days.
With the assistance of the Rajkot Crime Branch, both accused were arrested. The police investigation revealed that the accused Deep Aghera operates a factory, while Rahul Garia is unemployed. Police sources indicated that Deep specifically targeted Fortuner cars.
He used technology to unlock the cars and disabled the GPS system with a jammer. The police suspect that the accused planned to sell the stolen cars. However, the actual motive behind the theft will be revealed only after further questioning.
The investigation also uncovered that Deep has five prior cases registered against him in Rajkot, Surat, Goa, and Mumbai. Earlier, an investigation by Goa police revealed that Deep and his accomplice Harpreet had rented a Fortuner car for self-drive while posing as tourists in Goa and later stole it.
During this, they used fake identification and a fake number plate on the car. After the arrest, both accused are being further questioned and legal action is being taken by the Khar police in Mumbai.
