Vadodara: Divisional Railway Manager Raju Bhadke Inspects Vadodara Yard Remodelling
Under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Raju Bhadke, extensive yard remodelling and modernization of track infrastructure is underway at Vadodara station. Bhadke inspected this significant work with senior officials during his visit to the station.
He stated that the aim of this ambitious project is to enhance operational safety, expand line and platform capacity, improve train operation efficiency, and provide better facilities for passengers. Furthermore, the station's infrastructure is being strengthened to meet future transportation needs. This infrastructure development initiative will enhance Vadodara station's capacity to handle increasing traffic loads in the future and ensure safe, convenient, and efficient travel for millions of rail passengers.
The modernization of train operations through a VDU-based system will replace the current traditional panel-based system at Vadodara station with a modern Visual Display Unit (VDU) based system. This new system will make monitoring and controlling train operations faster, more convenient, and reliable. The VDU system displays signaling and routing information clearly and in a user-friendly format on computer screens, assisting station operational staff with better visibility, quick route setting, and prompt decision-making.
This system will reduce the likelihood of human errors, facilitate the identification of technical faults, and bring significant improvements in operational safety and efficiency. To enhance safety and reliability, the existing double slip diamond crossing will be removed. This complex track structure allows trains to cross tracks and change routes at the same location but requires more maintenance due to its numerous moving components and imposes speed restrictions.
Its removal will simplify the track structure, increase reliability, reduce maintenance needs, and make train movements in the station yard safer and more convenient. Platforms 4 and 5 are being extended to accommodate trains with 22 LHB coaches. This extension will ensure that all coaches of long-distance trains remain within the platform limits, making the boarding and alighting process safer and more convenient for passengers.
Additionally, it will facilitate the operation of longer trains considering the anticipated increase in passenger numbers. Improved connectivity for platforms 5 and 6 will connect the rail lines of platforms 5 and 6 directly to the main line, increasing the permitted speed from 10 kilometers per hour to 30 kilometers per hour. This improvement will reduce the time taken for the arrival of down trains and enhance operational efficiency, train handling capacity, and punctuality.
The permitted speed on loop lines 04 and 05 will be increased from 10 kilometers per hour to 15 kilometers per hour, making train movements within the yard faster and more efficient, thereby increasing yard operational efficiency. A new 350-meter long stabling line will also be constructed under the project, facilitating the stopping and maintenance of trains. This additional facility will increase the parking and maintenance capacity for train rakes, reduce congestion on operational lines and platforms, and make rake management, cleaning, and maintenance tasks more effective.
To enhance operational management and staff efficiency, a new station master office equipped with modern facilities, dedicated workspaces, and storage arrangements will also be constructed. To strengthen multimodal connectivity, a new platform number 7 will be constructed at an estimated cost of approximately Rs. 15 crores for Indian Railways, near the high-speed rail station building by NHSRCL.
The tender invitation notice (NIT) for this work has already been issued, and the tenders will be opened on July 23, 2026. The proposed platform number 7 will be directly connected to Vadodara railway station via a travellator, providing seamless movement between the two complexes for passengers. This will ensure effective integration with the upcoming high-speed rail station and provide passengers with a better multimodal travel experience.
This platform will be developed in accordance with Indian Railways standards and will include all necessary passenger facilities such as platform shelter, drinking water facilities, waiting area, toilets, and ticket booking counters. This development and modernization work reaffirms the commitment of Western Railway's Vadodara division to provide safe, modern, and passenger-centric rail services. Upon completion of the project, there will be significant improvements in operational speed, safety, capacity, reliability, and passenger facilities, and Vadodara station will evolve into a more capable, modern, and future-ready railway hub.
