Vadodara: Action to be taken against hospitals refusing treatment to road accident victims

To ensure timely treatment for patients injured in road accidents, the administration has adopted a strict stance. Vadodara Police Commissioner Narsingh Komar and Collector Dr. Anil Dhameliya clarified that action will be taken against hospitals that refuse to treat accident victims under the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat scheme.

In a meeting held at the Collector's office with doctors and administrators of empaneled hospitals, officials directed the effective and simple implementation of the PM relief scheme. During the meeting, government doctors provided detailed information about the process of working under the scheme and the arrangements for providing treatment. Officials stated that the main objective of the PM relief scheme is to provide immediate and quality treatment to those injured in road accidents.

The initial moments after an accident are extremely crucial, and therefore, there should be no delay in treatment due to financial reasons. Under the scheme, victims injured in road accidents are provided cashless treatment at designated hospitals. The government bears the treatment costs for up to a specified limit for the first seven days after the accident, which reduces the immediate financial burden on victims and their families.

The meeting emphasized better coordination among police, health department, administration, and hospitals. Instructions were given to effectively arrange for immediate treatment of injured individuals by transporting them to the nearest hospital as soon as an accident is reported. Police Commissioner Narsingh Komar and Collector Dr. Anil Dhameliya stated that hospitals that do not have IDs under the PM relief scheme will be directed to complete the process as soon as possible.

They emphasized that saving the life of an injured person arriving at the hospital should be the priority. There should be no waiting for police presence or insurance policy verification to start treatment. They instructed that injured individuals arriving at the hospital immediately after an accident should be treated on a priority basis.

The treatment costs will be covered under the PM relief scheme. If any additional charges are levied on an injured patient or their relatives, action will be taken against the concerned hospital. The meeting was attended by Resident Additional Collector B.S. Patel, Dr. Smita, health department officials, doctors, and police officials.
