Heritage Gallery Inaugurated at State Bank in Surat

A grand inauguration of the Heritage Gallery took place at the main branch of the State Bank of India located in Chowk Bazaar, aimed at preserving the city's nearly 130-year-old banking heritage. The event was graced by the presence of Balaji Kumar, Chief General Manager of Gandhinagar Circle, Rajesh Kumar, Deputy General Manager of Surat, and Vikas Kumar, Regional Manager.

Key clients of the bank were also specially invited to the program. During the event, guests were honored under the 'My Branch My Ambassador' campaign, making the ceremony memorable. The history of banking in Surat began in 1896, when a branch of the Bank of Bombay was established in the historic fort complex of Surat.

At that time, W. G. Page became the first agent of the branch.

Later, in 1921, the merger of the presidency banks led to the formation of the Imperial Bank of India, which was renamed the State Bank of India in 1955. This branch remains a living identity of the city's glorious banking tradition.
