Ashoka Tower Textile Market Strengthens Surat’s Reputation as a National Textile Hub

Located on Salasar Road, near Sahara Darwaja on Surat’s Ring Road, Ashoka Tower Textile Market has emerged as a significant and respected center within the city’s thriving textile industry. Established in 1994, the market houses a total of 264 shops, where wholesale textile trade continues to flourish. Particularly known for supplying Banarasi sarees from Mau, dyed sarees, embellished sarees, and lehengas, the market has earned a strong reputation across India.

Though modest in physical size, Ashoka Tower boasts advanced infrastructure and organized facilities that place it on par with larger textile markets. As per agency report, the market has implemented comprehensive safety and operational systems including high-quality CCTV surveillance, security guards, fire safety equipment, electric and diesel emergency pumps, and a dedicated water tank for continuous supply.

To ensure convenience for both traders and customers, the market offers facilities such as water coolers, a solar power plant, goods lift, passenger lift, additional stairways, dedicated parking areas, a parcel loading zone, and a common emergency lighting system. The overall management of the market is handled by an 11-member committee led by President Ranchhod Golakiya, Vice President Rakesh Gambhir, and Treasurer Omprakash Sonthalia.

Speaking to Loktej, Mannalal Omprakash Textile’s operator and market treasurer Omprakash Sonthalia shared insights into his long-standing involvement in the textile business. Active in Surat's textile trade for over 40 years, Sonthalia has been operating his wholesale dupatta business from Ashoka Tower for the past 25 years. His business network spans across India, and he also runs a process house where fabric processing and job work are carried out. He emphasized that his business functions both directly and offline, built on traditional yet reliable networks.

One of the most distinctive aspects of Ashoka Tower is its 24-hour operational environment, making it more accessible and active compared to many other textile markets in the region. The market is directly connected to major textile hubs across the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

In summary, Ashoka Tower Textile Market stands as a symbol of tradition, convenience, and business excellence, maintaining a prominent presence not only in Surat but also on the national textile trade map.
