Rains Cause House Collapses in Surat's Bhavaniwad

The continuous rainfall in Surat has heightened the risk for dilapidated houses. The fear of these old structures collapsing during strong winds and heavy rains is prevalent, leading Surat Corporation to issue warnings to residents of such buildings.

Incident in Bhavaniwad

Early this morning, two houses in the Bhavaniwad area collapsed, causing alarm among the nearby residents. A five-storey building and a ground-plus-one-storey building came down suddenly. Bhavaniwad, an old city area of Surat, often experiences such incidents due to the age of its buildings. Fortunately, there was no major loss of life.

Details of the Collapse

According to the fire department, a resident on the fourth floor of the five-storey building managed to escape, sustaining minor injuries to his head, hands, and legs. His companions were not present at the time. A family living in the adjacent one-storey house had also left prior to the incident. The collapse damaged a car and two two-wheelers parked nearby. The injured person was taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of old structures in the city, especially during the monsoon season. The authorities are urging residents to heed the warnings and take necessary precautions.
