GMDC Reduces Lignite Price by Rs 300 per Tonne

SGTPA initiative leads to significant lignite price cut effective from July 1, 2024.

GMDC Reduces Lignite Price by Rs 300 per Tonne

In a significant move to support industries, the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has reduced the price of lignite from the Tadkeshwar mine by Rs 300 per tonne, effective July 1, 2024. This initiative, driven by the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association (SGTPA), is expected to provide substantial relief to industries by lowering power generation costs.

SGTPA President Jitendrakumar Vakharia played a key role in this development, having raised concerns about the price, quality, and uninterrupted supply of lignite during monsoon in a meeting with GMDC officials. Following this discussion, GMDC decided to reduce the basic price of Tadkeshwar lignite, bringing the total price down by approximately Rs 340 per tonne.

The SGTPA has warmly welcomed this price reduction and encouraged its member industries to increase their lignite consumption. Additionally, the association has invited its members to visit the Tadkeshwar mine to gain better insights into the lignite supply.

The SGTPA has also urged member industries to:

  • Increase lignite consumption
  • Raise awareness about the price reduction
  • Contact SGTPA for queries or guidance regarding lignite use
  • Visit Tadkeshwar mine

This price reduction is poised to aid in reducing power generation costs and ensure a steady supply of lignite, providing much-needed relief to industries, particularly during the monsoon season.
