Tragedy in Maharashtra: Five Die Trying to Rescue Cat from Biogas Pit

Ahmednagar, Maharashtra - Five people lost their lives in a heartbreaking accident in Wakdi village, Nevasa tehsil, Ahmednagar district on Tuesday evening. The victims suffocated after entering a biogas pit in an attempt to rescue a cat that had fallen in.

According to reports, six people entered the pit one after another, each trying to save the previous person who had become trapped in the thick, suffocating fumes. Sadly, five individuals succumbed to suffocation. The sole survivor, Vijay Kale (35), is currently unconscious and undergoing treatment at the Ahmednagar District Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Bablu Kale (28), Anil Kale (55), Manik Kale (65), Sandeep Kale (32), and Babasaheb Gaikwad (40). All parties involved reportedly belonged to the same village, casting a heavy shadow of grief over the community.

Tehsil and police officials confirmed the incident and stated that rescue efforts were hampered by nightfall. Operations resumed on Wednesday morning, leading to the retrieval of the bodies. Local authorities are urging caution when dealing with biogas pits, which can emit dangerous gases and pose a serious risk to anyone who enters them.
