Transit Shift: Udhna Railway Station Set to Host 35 Trains, Moving Away from Surat
Surat Railway Station is struggling to cope with its daily influx of over 1.75 lakh passengers. With the city's population rapidly exceeding 75 lakh, the station's four platforms are simply inadequate. In an effort to alleviate this pressure, railway officials are considering diverting 35 trains currently stopping at Surat to the nearby Udhna station.
This proposal targets trains originating from eastern and north-eastern states. After their stop at Udhna, a decision will be made whether they should continue to Surat or be completely re-routed. This plan aims to decongest Surat station, allowing for the consideration of new train services and improving passenger experience.
Bhestan Railway Station is also undergoing development to further assist in managing Surat's passenger volume. By providing a stop point closer to their homes, residents of Pandesara, Udhna, Dindoli, Limbayat, Godadara, Sachin, and Bhestan will no longer be required to travel to the heavily congested Surat station.
The development of Udhna station includes the construction of two new platforms, with a third on the horizon. This expansion, along with the diversion of some trains, will alleviate parking and traffic issues around Surat station. Additionally, it will contribute to the overall development of the Udhna area.
With a daily passenger count exceeding 20,000, Udhna station is already well-established and ready to accommodate the additional traffic. As Surat's population continues to grow, finding alternative solutions for managing passenger flow becomes increasingly crucial. Udhna station presents a promising option to address this need, offering a more convenient and efficient travel experience for passengers while easing the burden on Surat's overburdened railway infrastructure.
