Vadodara : Sardar Bagh Swimming Pool to Reopen Soon: Deputy Mayor Inspects Progress

Vadodara - After being closed for over four years, the Sardar Bagh swimming pool is set to reopen soon, bringing much-needed relief to the city's residents. On Saturday, Deputy Mayor and department officials visited the swimming pool to inspect the ongoing renovation work.

"We are making every effort to ensure that the swimming pool is reopened before the summer," stated the Deputy Mayor. "We have identified the areas where work has stalled and are taking steps to expedite the process."

The swimming pool, located at Wadiwadi, remained closed for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, essential maintenance work was not carried out, causing further delays in its reopening.

"The swimming pool's water supply system requires RCC work before new tiles can be installed," explained a department official. "Additionally, we need to address the filtration system and construct a shed for the filter plant and toilet block."

The original cost estimate for the renovation work was Rs 47.96 lakh. However, the tender received was for Rs 80.34 lakh, a 67.53% increase. The tender was awarded only after six attempts.

"The swimming pool's filter system is outdated and beyond repair. We have removed some pumps and equipment from the pumping room for replacement," added the official.

Life members of the swimming pool expressed their frustration over the prolonged closure. "We have been waiting for four years for the swimming pool to reopen," said one life member. "We hope the authorities will expedite the renovation work so we can enjoy the pool once again."
