Spurious Spices Seized in Surat in Crackdown on Food Fraud
Officials Raid Factory Suspected of Using Renowned Brand Name
Surat, October 31, 2023: Food safety officials in Surat, India, have seized a large quantity of spurious spices from a factory suspected of using the name of a renowned brand.
The raid was conducted on the ACT factory in Bamroli, Surat, based on information that the factory was manufacturing and selling fake spices under the name of Everest.
During the raid, officials seized 6121 kg of Everest Chicken Masala, Mutton Masala, and Loose Masala. Samples of the spices have been sent to a laboratory for testing, and further action will be taken after the report is received.
The factory owner, Pawan Prakash Kalal, has been booked under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The raid is part of a larger crackdown on food fraud in Surat. Food safety officials have been conducting regular inspections of food factories and restaurants to ensure that they are following safety standards and selling genuine products.
