Surat, October 14, 2023: Four people were injured in a fire caused by the explosion of an electric bike battery at midnight in the Puna area of Surat.
The incident occurred at the residence of Shivlal Gagjibhai Ranpariya, who lives in a rented house in Krishnapark. Ranpariya had kept his electric bike charging in the main hall of the house when the battery exploded at around 3:30 AM.
The fire quickly spread to the kitchen, causing the gas cylinder to burst. The fire also engulfed all the household items.
Ranpariya, his son Maulik, and his nephew Mit tried to control the fire before the fire department arrived, but they were also injured in the blaze. A neighbor, Jayeshbhai, was also injured.
The fire department arrived at the scene and controlled the fire after spraying water for an hour.
Fire Officer Mohite said that the explosion was minor because there was less gas in the gas cylinder. He added that four-five people were injured in the incident and that there was a possibility of a major explosion if the gas cylinder had been completely filled.
The injured were taken to Smeer Hospital for treatment.
