LIC Agent Duped of Rs 43,000 in Surat

SURAT: In a cunning ruse under the guise of procuring an insurance policy, an LIC agent was deceitfully trapped and extorted of Rs 43,000 by impostors claiming to be from the Adajan Police. The meticulously planned scam occurred in the Citylight Road area of Surat.

The main orchestrator, identified as Ashwin alias Gopal Ulva, aged 30, from Vrindavan Apart, Vedroad, Mool, Bhavnagar, has been apprehended by the Adajan police. He has now been placed in police custody for a span of two days. Investigations reveal that Ulva previously owned and operated a restaurant in Bhavnagar. Currently, three culprits, including Ulva, have been detained in connection with the case.

Details emerged that on the 25th, Sanjay Vaghela lured the 40-year-old LIC agent into an old house in Adajan, using the insurance policy as bait. The agent was not alone; he was accompanied by his associates Sanjay Vaghela, Dilip Mama, and a young woman.

In the midst of the policy discussion, the entrance was abruptly sealed. Moments later, three individuals, including Gopal Ulva, made their entrance, masquerading as members of the Adajan police force's 'D' staff. Despite the agent's attempt to clarify his legitimate intentions regarding the insurance policy, he was brutally assaulted with police batons, accused of illicit activities. The agent's companions, Sanjay and Dilip, too faced physical retribution, seemingly to maintain the guise. In an intimidating move, the imposter police confined the agent, threatening him with fabricated charges and public humiliation via media exposure.

With Ulva's arrest, the police believe they are closer to unmasking the entirety of this fraudulent operation.
