Organ Donation in Surat Gives New Life : Braindead Bismarkarma Awadh Mistry Donates Liver and Lungs to Needy Patients

Surat, September 29 - On the auspicious occasion of Bhadravi Poonam, New Civil Hospital of Surat witnessed a noble act of organ donation that promises to bring new life to two patients. Bismarkarma Awadh Mistry, a resident of Sachin GIDC near Surat, became the city's 45th organ donor after being declared brain dead.

42-year-old Bismakarma, originally from Haspura, Ahiyapur Khutha in Bihar, worked at an Ice Company in GIDC and resided within the company premises. On the evening of September 27, he suddenly collapsed while cooking and was rushed to New Civil Hospital. Medical investigations revealed a burst nerve in his brain. Despite dedicated efforts by Dr. Jai Patel, Dr. Keyur Prajapati, Dr. Nilesh Kachhadia, and RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, he was declared brain dead in the early hours of September 29.

Understanding the significance of organ donation, Dr. Nilesh Kachhariya, Dr. Ketan Nayak, Iqbal Kadiwala, and counselor Nirmala Kathud educated the Mistry family about its importance. Moved by their words, Bismakarma's uncle decided to donate his nephew's organs, despite the immense grief the family was undergoing. Bismakarma is survived by his wife, Mamtadevi, daughter Khushboo, and son Amit, who currently reside in their native village.

Today, Bismakarma's liver was transported to IKD Hospital in Ahmedabad, while his lungs were sent to DY Patil Hospital and Research Centre in Pune. Civil Medical Superintendent Dr. Ganesh Govekar commended the concerted efforts of the medical and nursing staff, security personnel, sanitation workers, and conscious volunteers in facilitating the organ donation.

This act of kindness underscores the spirit of humanity and the possibility of life amidst loss, with New Civil Hospital playing a pivotal role in making organ donation a success in the region.
