Sachin GIDC, Surat — A tragic accident occurred at Madhunandan Dyeing Printing Mill in the Sachin GIDC area when a goods lift fell from the second floor, resulting in the death of two employees and leaving one critically injured. The incident has cast a pall over the community, and an investigation is currently underway.
Lift Breaks Down During Operation
Last night, three employees were in the lift, transporting goods to the third floor. Without warning, the lift malfunctioned and plummeted from the second floor. The incident left 19-year-old Sandeep Kumar Shyam Kishore Chauhan, 48-year-old Dharmeshwar Halkhori Betha, and another laborer critically injured.
Fatalities Confirmed
After the accident, all three injured workers were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where Sandeep and Dharmeshwar succumbed to their injuries. The police were notified, and the bodies of the deceased were sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The police have registered a case of accidental death and have commenced their investigation, beginning with statements from the victims' families.
About the Deceased
Sandeep had recently moved to Surat from Bihar in search of employment, leaving his family and laborer father behind. Dharmeshwar, also originally from Bihar, had started working at the mill just two months ago and is survived by a daughter and three sons. Both families are in a state of mourning.
Injured Worker in Critical Condition
The surviving laborer, whose name has not been released, sustained a severe head injury and is currently undergoing treatment.
"The investigation is still in the early stages. We are doing everything in our power to find out what caused this tragic incident," said a police spokesperson.
The accident has raised concerns about the safety of industrial lifts, prompting calls for stricter regulations and oversight to prevent future tragedies.
