Incident occurred in the Vesu locality of the city
A retired Mamlatdar from Vesu, Surat, has filed a police complaint after two women who came to his house for domestic work stole 20 tola gold ornaments worth Rs 7.80 lakh on their very first day of work. The incident occurred within 40 to 45 minutes of the women starting their work, after which they fled.
Vesu, which is the most posh locality in Surat city, has been experiencing frequent complaints of maids stealing from houses. Despite police advice to obtain and provide details of maids before employing them, residents do not follow these rules, leading to continuous incidents of theft in the area.
The retired Mamlatdar hired the women for cleaning work after they claimed to be seeking work and offered to display their abilities. The women then proceeded to steal gold mangalsutra, pendant, set, garland, bracelet, and other items. The police have begun investigating the case, examining nearby CCTV footage and initiating efforts to apprehend the two female thieves.
The incident highlights the importance of taking precautions before hiring domestic help and obtaining necessary details before allowing them into the house. Residents in posh areas such as Vesu must take necessary measures to avoid becoming victims of theft.
