Surat’s New Civil Hospital Witnesses Another Organ Donation Amidst Cyclone Biporjoy

SURAT – Overcoming the havoc wreaked by Cyclone Biporjoy, Surat's New Civil Hospital marked another instance of organ donation, reinforcing the city's reputation as a 'land of donors.'

28-year-old Ganesh Keshavbhai Parmar, resident of Kosad, was declared brain-dead following a domestic dispute. His family agreed to donate his organs, granting a second chance at life to four individuals.

While Cyclone Biporjoy continues to batter the Gujarat coastline, the state government prioritizes protecting lives and property. Simultaneously, the city of Surat perseveres with its organ donation drive, undeterred by the cyclone's destruction.

Parmar was admitted to the New Civil Hospital on June 14 at 7.30 am in an unconscious state following injuries sustained in an altercation with his brothers. After receiving treatment, neurophysician surgeon Dr. Paresh Janjmera and neurosurgeon Dr. Keyur Prajapati declared him brain-dead on June 16 at 1.30 pm.

Dr. Nilesh Kachadia and counselor Nirmala from Soto's team explained the significance of organ donation to Parmar's family. Following their understanding and consent, Parmar's two kidneys and two eyes were donated. His kidneys were transported to Ahmedabad I.K.D. Hospital while his eyes were preserved in the Civil Hospital's Eye Bank.

Dr. Ganesh Govekar, Civil Superintendent of the Civil Hospital, RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nilesh Kachadia, Dr. Bharat Chavda, Vice Chairman of the Nursing Council Iqbal Kadiwala, and the nursing and security staff all played crucial roles in ensuring the successful organ donation.

Today's organ donation marks the 29th such event at the New Civil Hospital, exemplifying Surat citizens' commitment to the mantra of 'giving life through organ donation.' Despite the ongoing cyclone threat, the city continues to demonstrate resilience and a spirit of generosity.
