Gujarat Declared Polio-Free, No Cases Since 2007: Praful Pansheriya

Gandhinagar, June 28. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched a statewide pulse polio vaccination campaign in Gandhinagar.

The campaign aims to administer polio drops to over 8.37 million children aged 0 to 5 years in the state. To ensure the success of the campaign, 33,489 polio booths have been established across the state, where 133,956 health workers will provide their services. On the first day of the campaign, children are being administered polio drops at the booths, while health department teams are also going door-to-door to administer drops to those children who could not reach the booths for any reason.

Additionally, mobile units and transit points will also ensure access to children. Minister Praful Pansheriya stated that this three-day campaign, initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, aims to reach every eligible child in the state. He emphasized that all children aged 0 to 5 years must receive the polio drops to keep Gujarat polio-free.

He mentioned that the campaign will run for three days, and no polio cases have been reported in Gujarat since 2007. The health department's team is advancing this campaign with full adherence to rules and plans. The team is reaching out to children in cities, villages, and slums to administer polio drops.

Over 8 million children are expected to receive polio drops during these three days. Minister Pansheriya expressed gratitude to all health department staff for making this possible. The district administration has deployed thousands of health workers for monitoring and effective implementation of the vaccination campaign.

Special follow-up arrangements have also been made to identify and administer drops to any missed children. Dedicated teams will conduct door-to-door surveys to ensure that no eligible child is left unvaccinated.

The health department and district administration have appealed to all parents to take their children under five years of age to the nearest polio booth to receive the polio drops. If any child is unable to take the drops on the first day, the door-to-door health team will administer them.
