Surat: Massive Silent Rally Against the Death of Jain Saints
A massive silent rally was held in Surat on Friday morning in protest against the alleged planned road accident that led to the death of two saints of the Digambar Jain community, Shrutmati Mataji and Upasham Mataji, disciples of Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, and the road accident that resulted in the demise of Panyas Shri Omkarshankar Vijay Ji Maharaj in Chotila, Rajkot district. The Jain community across the country is staging protests against these incidents.
In this context, on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 9 AM, a joint silent rally was organized by the entire Jain community of Surat, including Digambar, Shwetambar, Sthanakvasi, and Terapanthi sects. The silent rally began at Sargam Shopping Center in Parle Point and peacefully reached the Collector's office. Men participated in white pants and shirts, while women wore orange sarees.
Throughout the event, the community members maintained discipline and peace. The delegation participating in the rally submitted a memorandum to the honorable Collector, demanding that the main accused and all those involved in the crime be prosecuted in a fast-track court and given the harshest punishment.
Additionally, the demand was made to the Government of India to enact a special law to ensure the safety of saints and saints traveling across the country, so that they can contribute to religion, culture, and national interest in a safe environment. More than 5,000 community members attended the silent rally, showcasing the unity and outrage of the Jain community throughout the city.
