Surat: Awareness Meeting Held at FOSTA Office to Prevent Child Labor

An awareness meeting was organized at the Federation of Surat Trade and Textile Association (FOSTA) office on Thursday to ensure the effective implementation of laws against child labor and in commercial establishments. The meeting was conducted by the Gujarat government's Labor and Employment Department.

Labor department officials provided detailed information to the attending traders about various provisions of the Child Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. The officials clarified that employing any child for labor is a legally punishable offense, and strict action can be taken against the concerned individual. They appealed to traders not to employ child laborers under any circumstances and to report any instances of child labor to the relevant department immediately for necessary action.

During the meeting, officials stated that children's place is not in the workplace but in school. It is the responsibility of every trader and industrialist in society to actively participate in the campaign to prevent child labor and contribute to building a safe and bright future for children. FOSTA officials welcomed this initiative from the labor department, stating that the organization will further strengthen awareness regarding the prohibition of child labor among all its member traders and will provide every possible support to the administration in enforcing the law.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Labor Commissioner H.S. Gamit, labor department officials, FOSTA officials, and a large number of textile traders. The need for collective efforts to create a child labor-free society was also emphasized during the program.
