Surat: Chamber presents to Chief Minister on industry issues, emphasizes relief schemes and gas supply

A delegation from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry met with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday, April 23, 2026, to present important industry-related issues. Led by Chamber President Nikhil Madras, the delegation included Vice President Ashok Jirawala, former President Vijay Mevawala, Honorary Minister Bijal Zariwala, and Treasurer CA Mitish Modi.

During the meeting, the Chamber demanded the reimplementation of the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), which was introduced during the COVID period, considering the current situation in the Middle East. They also proposed providing collateral-free loans to industrialists with a six-month moratorium. Expressing concern over the uncertainty in gas supply due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the Chamber called for a faster and more effective gas distribution system.

The delegation reported that workers were leaving Surat for their home states due to a shortage of gas, which is impacting the industry. To prevent the migration of workers, they suggested coordinating with the Railway Ministry to arrange additional trains to bring back workers who had gone outside. Additionally, they expressed concern over the delays in the proposed PM Mitra Park project near Surat.

The Chamber urged the state government to prioritize this project by appointing a developer soon and accelerating development work to strengthen Surat's leading position in the textile sector. The Chief Minister listened carefully to all the Chamber's suggestions and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address industry-related issues. He also sought the Chamber's cooperation to ensure maximum participation of industrialists in the 'Vibrant Gujarat' program, to which the Chamber responded positively.
