Surat: Women Lawyers Honor Senior Advocate Meenaben Jagatap

Women lawyers in Surat honored senior advocate Meenaben Jagatap, who has been fighting for women's reservation in the legal profession for a long time. They presented her with a certificate of appreciation and a bouquet in recognition of her efforts to secure representation for women lawyers in the Bar Association and Bar Council.

During the event, women advocates mentioned that Meenaben Jagatap had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding reservation for women lawyers, which opened the way for women's representation in Gujarat's bar institutions. Following the Supreme Court's directives, women have been appointed to important positions such as LR, Treasurer, and Council Member in various district bar associations in Gujarat. Additionally, women's reservation has also been approved in the Gujarat Bar Council.

Present at the event were a large number of women advocates, including Preeti Joshi, Heeral Panwala, Bharti Mukherjee from the Surat Bar Council, LR Fani Patel, Treasurer Divya Kosambia, Rajeshwari Shukla, Heena Ghimer, Kirtan Salve, and Neeta Trivedi. Advocate Preeti Joshi stated that the struggle Meenaben Jagatap has undertaken for the interests of women lawyers is inspiring for future generations. She noted that women are now beginning to receive leadership opportunities, which will strengthen their participation in the justice system.

In her address, Meenaben Jagatap mentioned that the struggle for women begins at birth, and they must fight for their existence and respect throughout their lives. She urged women lawyers to remain vigilant and organized to protect their self-respect. It is noteworthy that a bench of Supreme Court Justices Suryakant and N.

Kotishwar Singh recently directed that 30 percent of the positions in the Executive Committee, including Treasurer, in the Gujarat High Court and district bar associations be reserved for women lawyers. The court emphasized the need for Gujarat to take positive steps to ensure equal representation for women lawyers, similar to other states.
