Surat Municipal Corporation Approves Rs 49 Lakh Budget for Festive Lighting Ahead of Diwali

Surat — Adding to the festive sparkle of Diwali, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will join city residents in celebrating the Festival of Lights this year by illuminating major public spaces, bridges, and offices across the city. The civic body has approved a budget of Rs 49 lakh for decorative lighting ahead of the festival. The proposal was sanctioned during the standing committee meeting held on Thursday.

The SMC’s plan involves adorning its headquarters, all zonal offices, public buildings, key roads, and bridges with colourful and decorative lighting from October 20 to October 23. The initiative aims to enhance the city’s festive charm and showcase Surat’s vibrant spirit during Diwali.

Diwali has always been a grand and joyous occasion for Surat residents, and preparations are already in full swing across homes, apartments, and marketplaces. The civic body’s decision to illuminate the city is expected to further enhance its beauty and festive atmosphere.

Officials said the initiative is intended to present Surat as a “festive city” and to create a sense of positivity and enthusiasm among its citizens during the celebration period.
