Surat Education Officer Issues Strict Safety Guidelines for Schools
Surat – Taking serious note of the recent tragic incident at a school in Ahmedabad, Surat District Education Officer Dr. Bhagirathsingh Parmar has issued strict directives for all government, aided, and private schools in the district. The guidelines aim to ensure student safety and create a fear-free learning environment.
As per the directives, every school must now constitute a “Discipline Committee” in line with the School Safety Policy of 2016. This committee, comprising the principal, teachers, and student monitors, will be responsible for constant surveillance of safety within the school premises.
Random checks of students’ school bags and vehicles will be carried out to prevent any dangerous items from being brought to school. Parents have also been advised to regularly inspect their children’s belongings to ensure safety compliance.
The circular further states that under no circumstances should students be left unattended in classrooms if a teacher is absent. Instead, they should be engaged in alternative activities to prevent any disruptive or unsafe behavior.
Dr. Parmar has made it clear that if any sharp weapon or prohibited object is found with a student, their parents will be summoned for counseling in their presence. Should there be no improvement even after counseling, disciplinary action such as suspension or expulsion may follow.
He stressed that providing a completely safe environment for students is a moral responsibility of principals and teachers. Any unusual or threatening incident must be reported immediately to the Education Department for prompt action.
