Surat : Snakebite Incidents During Monsoon; 108 Emergency Service Saves 132 Lives in Two Months
A notable rise in snakebite cases has been reported in Surat district during the ongoing monsoon season, but swift intervention by the 108 Emergency Medical Service has proven crucial in saving lives. According to data, 56 snakebite cases were recorded in June, while the number rose to 76 in July, bringing the total to 132 cases over the past two months.
Operated by EMRI Green Health Services, the 108 emergency service has demonstrated exceptional readiness, providing timely assistance in even the most challenging weather conditions—be it heavy rainfall, extreme heat, or cold. Trained personnel reach the incident site promptly and administer critical first aid, including life-saving injections such as anti-snake venom and hydrocortisone.
These medical interventions help stabilize the victim and bring them out of immediate danger before transporting them to the nearest hospital for further treatment. As per agency report, Abhishek Thakar, Programme Manager and District Supervisor of Surat's 108 service, has urged citizens to dial 108 immediately in any emergency. The service has emerged as a vital life-saving resource in combating snakebite emergencies across the region.
