Moolchand Textile Market Continues to Thrive as a Pillar of Surat’s Traditional Textile Trade

Surat, July 9 – Established in 1984, Moolchand Textile Market, located in the bustling Salabatpura Ring Road area of Surat, has stood the test of time as a cornerstone of the city's vibrant textile industry. With 182 shops, the market remains a leading hub for wholesale and retail trade of Rapier Jacquard sarees, fancy dress materials, lehengas, and kurti fabrics.

Jayprakash Chugh, Treasurer of the market and proprietor of Bhagwati Sarees, has been associated with the trade for over three decades. He noted that while the rising popularity of ready-made garments has impacted traditional saree sales, the market still dispatches hundreds of sarees across India daily. Ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1,200, the sarees cater to a wide customer base from various economic backgrounds.

The market is efficiently managed by a 21-member committee led by seasoned traders, including President Rajkumar Chopra and Secretary Sagar Juneja. This leadership has been instrumental in maintaining smooth operations and adapting to industry changes.

Sagar Juneja, who operates Ganesh Silk Mills, shared that his firm has been engaged in the manufacturing and wholesale distribution of printed fabrics and fancy sarees for the past 20 years. "Our strength lies in a reliable offline agent network and timely delivery of high-quality fabrics," he said. Their textiles are currently supplied to major markets in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and several other states. Going forward, the company plans to focus on design innovation and strengthening its logistics infrastructure.

To ensure the safety of customers and traders, the market is equipped with security guards and CCTV surveillance. Its proximity to the railway station and bus stand further enhances accessibility, attracting traders from across the country.

Despite growing competition and the rapid shift toward digital commerce, Moolchand Textile Market continues to hold its ground with its strong traditional roots and relationship-based trading model. It remains a significant name on India’s textile map, celebrated for its enduring reputation and trusted supply chain.
