Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil Inaugurates Two New Flyovers in Surat Worth Rs 40 Crore
Surat, April 17 – Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil inaugurated two newly constructed flyover bridges in Surat on Wednesday. Built at a cost of Rs 40 crore, the flyovers are located at Budhiya and Gabheni crossroads and are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
The new infrastructure will benefit local residents, employees of Hazira-based industries, and thousands of daily commuters travelling to and from Sachin and Pandesara GIDC. During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Patil emphasized that the flyovers would reduce accidents, save travel time, and result in considerable fuel savings.
He highlighted the government's commitment to rural development, noting that hundreds of development projects are underway in each village of Choryasi taluka. Patil also stated that India's capability in executing infrastructure projects extends even to remote areas like Jammu and Kashmir, where roads and bridges are being built using modern technologies. He further mentioned that several colonial-era bridges have been refurbished using new techniques.
Stressing the importance of water conservation, the minister urged the public to support underground rainwater harvesting as a civic responsibility. Referring to the 'Catch the Rain' campaign as a people's movement, he said the initiative aims to conserve every drop of rainwater and store it underground for agricultural and drinking purposes.
MLA Sandeep Desai noted that the new flyovers would enhance road safety and provide smoother transportation. He also announced plans for upcoming infrastructure projects, including a Rs 93 crore flyover near Abhava-Khajod crossroads and another flyover worth Rs 152 crore near Gate No. 1 of Reliance Company at Kawas Patia. Additionally, a bridge costing Rs 40 crore is under construction from Sachin to Satla.
Desai asserted that the government is actively working towards infrastructure development, particularly in the areas of roads and transportation, with a focus on integrated urban growth and increased public convenience.
The event was attended by State Minister for Forest and Environment Mukeshbhai Patel, District Panchayat President Bhaviniben Patel, MLA Sangeetaben Patil, Surat Mayor Daksheshbhai Mavani, Deputy Mayor Dr. Narendra Patil, Standing Committee Chairman Rajan Patel, ruling party leader Shashikala Tripathi, and several municipal councillors and citizens.
