Surat : Tribal Dairy Farmer in Gujarat Boosts Income with Government Support

Farmers and cattle rearers across India are increasingly benefiting from government schemes aimed at improving rural livelihoods. A shining example is Pradeepbhai Ramanbhai Patel, a tribal dairy farmer from Vachhawad village in Mahuva taluka of Surat district, who has significantly increased his income by availing benefits under a state-run scheme.

Pradeepbhai, who took up farming and dairy work after completing his schooling up to the 12th grade, supplies milk daily to a local dairy. His efforts now yield a monthly income of Rs. 30,000 from his seven cows. His journey toward self-reliance took a significant turn when he learned about a scheme offered through the Mandvi Tribal Sub-Plan Office, under the Gujarat Tribal Development Corporation, which provides subsidies for fodder-cutting machines.

Upon applying and submitting the necessary documents, Pradeepbhai received a subsidy of Rs. 35,000, covering 75 percent of the machine's cost. As a result, he acquired the fodder cutter for just Rs. 3,000. This machine reduced the manual labor and time required to cut grass and minimized fodder wastage by chopping it into smaller, easily consumable pieces. This improvement in feeding efficiency led to a noticeable increase in milk production.

Expressing gratitude for the state government's initiative, Pradeepbhai urged other cattle rearers to seek information about similar schemes and apply appropriately to enhance their income. He emphasized that proper knowledge and utilization of such programs could make animal husbandry a more profitable and sustainable livelihood.

Government schemes supporting animal husbandry have become a boon for many tribal and rural farmers. Pradeepbhai’s story exemplifies how access to the right tools and government support can empower individuals to move toward self-sufficiency and economic growth.
