Surat : Awareness Meeting Held for Industrial Unit Owners in Sachin GIDC on Fake RTI Threats and Worker Safety
Surat: An awareness meeting was organized for industrial unit owners in the Sachin GIDC Police Station area as per the directives of Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot and under the guidance of Joint Police Commissioner (Sector-2). The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-06), with the presence of the Sachin GIDC Police Inspector.
Prominent attendees included Mitulbhai Mehta, President of the Sachin Industrial Association; Mayurbhai Golwala, Secretary; Nileshbhai Gami, President of Sachin Notified; and Vice President Bhikhabhai Nakrani. Around 50 industrial unit owners participated in the session.
According to Mayurbhai Golwala, the meeting's primary focus was to address the increasing problem of extortion attempts targeting entrepreneurs under the guise of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. As per agency report, many antisocial elements have been sending fake applications and emails to harass business owners. The police urged entrepreneurs to immediately report such misuse of RTI and assured them of prompt assistance. Contact numbers of police officials were shared, and it was advised that complaints can be registered directly at the police station.
The meeting also included awareness on the NDPS Act to discourage drug abuse among industrial workers. Employers were urged to educate their workers about staying away from narcotics and maintaining a safe work environment.
Additionally, the police provided crucial information on cyber fraud, explaining how fake calls, emails, and other digital methods are used to deceive people. Regular awareness campaigns will be conducted in industrial areas to help workers safeguard themselves from such scams.
The implementation of compulsory helmet use, strictly enforced from February 15, 2025, in Surat, was also discussed. Two-wheeler riders working in industrial units were encouraged to wear helmets, and awareness was extended to their families as well to ensure traffic rules are followed diligently.
This meeting was a significant step toward enhancing safety and awareness in the industrial zone, with emphasis on protecting entrepreneurs from fraudulent RTI practices, educating workers on cybercrime risks, preventing drug abuse, and promoting road safety through helmet use.
