The incident has sparked anger among the victims' families, who allege that police intervention prevented a possible rescue attempt.

According to reports, six men were engaged in gambling near Iqbal Nagar, close to the bridge in Randher, when police arrived unexpectedly. The group scattered in fear, and in the ensuing chaos, 52-year-old Gulam Nabi alias Manju Gulam Mohammad Safed and 50-year-old Mohammad Amin Mohammad Hussain Hotwala jumped into the river in an attempt to escape.

Emergency services were immediately notified, and local residents pulled the two men out of the water. They were rushed to New Civil Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
