Explosion in Surat Diamond Factory Leaves 14 Injured
Surat: A massive explosion occurred at the RV Diamonds factory in Katargam, Surat, on Thursday, leaving 14 diamond artisans injured, with two in critical condition.
According to reports, the explosion happened on the third floor of the factory while workers were cleaning diamonds. The gas line suddenly exploded, igniting a fire in the factory. Fire department teams rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert and successfully extinguished the blaze.
The injured workers were immediately admitted to Kiran Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Surat Mayor Dakshesh Mawani visited the hospital to meet the injured and instructed officials to provide all necessary assistance.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the factory was heavily reliant on the gas line. The gas supply, connected from the ground floor to the third floor through cylinders, was used for cleaning diamonds, melting gold, and even in the pantry. It is believed that a technical fault in the gas line might have triggered the explosion.
Fire Officer’s Statement
Fire Officer Ramesh Selar stated that the fire department teams quickly responded to the emergency and controlled the fire. At least 14 employees were inside the factory at the time, all of whom suffered burns. He emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to safety standards in factories to prevent such incidents in the future.
