Surat Textile Workers Union Enforces New Weight Limit on Parcels Starting September 1

Surat: A crucial meeting of the Surat District Textile Marketing Transport Labor Union was held on Wednesday at the Global Textile Market located at Sahara Darwaja. The primary focus of the meeting was the implementation of the rule that prohibits lifting parcels weighing more than 65 kilograms, effective from September 1.

For the past year, the labor union has been persistently demanding a weight limit for parcels to protect workers' health. Multiple meetings and correspondences had taken place between the labor union, FOSTA, and the Transport Association. Following these discussions, a unanimous decision was reached to enforce the 65 kg weight limit starting September 1. FOSTA has also issued a circular to all textile market managements and associations to ensure compliance with this new rule.

Shan Khan, the spokesperson for the labor union, stated that legal action would be taken against any traders or transporters who attempt to force workers to lift parcels exceeding the 65 kg limit. He emphasized that international labor standards and human rights laws indicate that lifting more than 50 kilograms can have adverse effects on a person's health. Therefore, any pressure to exceed the 65 kg limit would be considered a violation of the Factories Act, Section 34, and the Gujarat Shops and Establishments Act, Section 11.

The union's president, Umashankar Mishra, and General Secretary, Dev Prakash Pandey, assured that the union is fully vigilant and prepared to enforce the 65 kg weight limit. From September 1 onwards, workers will refuse to lift any parcels that exceed this limit.

The meeting was attended by a large number of union officials, including Umashankar Mishra, Shan Khan, Dev Prakash Pandey, Kinni Shukla, Bablu Pandey, Rahul Pandey, Santosh Mishra Pappu, Hanuman Prasad Shukla, Dharnidhar Pandey, Dabbu Shukla, Pawan Tiwari, Pawan Pandey, Rameshwar Tiwari, Santosh Ojha, Mahesh Shukla, Vishwanath Pandey, Ankit Mishra, Parshuram Shukla, and Rinku Dubey.
