Surat Hosts Awareness Program on World Hemophilia Day to Educate Public About Blood Disorders

Surat, April 17: On the occasion of World Hemophilia Day, a special awareness program was organized jointly by the Red Cross Choriyasi Branch and the Lions Club of Surat East. The event aimed to raise awareness among the public about hemophilia, a serious and rare blood disorder that can pose life-threatening risks if not properly diagnosed and managed.

During the event, Dr. Praful Shiroya, Chairman of the Red Cross and Co-Convener of Saksham Gujarat, explained that hemophilia is a medical condition in which the blood lacks the ability to clot properly. As a result, even minor internal or external injuries can lead to prolonged bleeding, which may become fatal if not treated in time. He emphasized that the disorder is caused by a deficiency of specific blood proteins known as clotting factors, particularly thrombokinase, which are essential for blood coagulation.

The awareness session was also attended by prominent members of the Lions Club including Kishor Mangrolia, Nilesh Vejpara, Hiren Gajera, Dharmesh Vekariya, and Kishor Patel. They unanimously stressed the importance of early awareness and education in combating such life-threatening conditions.

Health professionals and social workers present at the event urged the community to disseminate information about hemophilia more widely, noting that timely diagnosis and proper treatment can save many lives. The initiative highlighted the critical need for regular health check-ups and informed medical guidance to manage the disorder effectively.

The event served as a meaningful step in promoting health literacy and fostering community engagement on a condition that often remains undetected until it becomes severe.
