Yarn Expo-2024 Showcases Innovations in Sustainable Textiles at Surat

Surat: The Yarn Expo-2024, organized by the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GFRCC), commenced at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Center, Sarsana. This three-day event, running from August 9 to 11, 2024, aims to propel Surat’s textile industry into the future by showcasing a vast array of weaving, knitting, and furnishing yarns, machinery, and fabrics under one roof. The expo has attracted traders from across India and abroad, with notable participation from cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and international visitors from Nepal.

The first day of the expo saw significant attention on natural yarns, particularly those made from vegetable and animal bases. The theme pavilion highlighted the use of animal fibers, such as wool derived from sheep and camel hair, and plant fibers, including those from water hyacinth, linseed, bamboo, and banana. Bijal Jariwala, Chamber's Group Chairman and Chairman of All Exhibitions 2024-25, emphasized the importance of these eco-friendly materials in the textile industry’s future.

GFRCC Chairman Girdhar Gopal Mundhra elaborated on the industry’s innovative strides, particularly in recycling and sustainability. He noted that high-quality yarns are now being produced by recycling plastic bottles, and under the Made Man Fiber initiative, natural yarns are being developed from plant fibers like water hyacinth, linseed, and bamboo. These initiatives not only contribute to waste management but also provide economic benefits to farmers by increasing the use of agricultural products in textile manufacturing.

Vinay Soni of Madhusudan Group, a prominent name in Surat’s yarn industry, highlighted the growing demand for self-stretch yarn, which is widely used in garments and sportswear. Soni also noted the rising popularity of lycra and linen-blended yarns, which are now being produced on a large scale to meet the needs of the textile industry.

Utsav Kejriwal of Salasar Dyed Yarn, based in Kim, Surat, reported strong demand for litchi yarn, particularly in regions across South and North India. This versatile yarn is used in various applications, from making shoes and shirts to saree borders and pillow covers.

Avnish Pandey, Marketing Executive of Perfect Filaments Limited, Daman, discussed the company’s production of yarns adhering to global recycling standards, which are utilized in weaving, knitting, and furnishing. These yarns are not only distributed across India but also exported internationally.

A notable highlight of the expo was the launch of Shayro polyester yarn by Shiv Shakti Synthetic at stall number 316. The Chamber's team, led by Rajesh Goyal, unveiled this high-quality yarn, which is specifically designed for use in fancy garments, marking another step forward in Surat’s textile innovation.

The Yarn Expo-2024 continues to serve as a crucial platform for showcasing the latest advancements and fostering growth in Surat’s textile sector.
