Surat Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested, Chain of Car Possession Unraveled
Diamond Manager Ravi Vala Arrested, Victim Ankit Gupta Succumbs to Injuries
Surat: Police have arrested diamond manager Ravi Vala in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in Surat's Dindoli area. The victim, Ankit Gupta, who was driving a vegetable lorry, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Ravi Vala was reportedly driving negligently when he struck Ankit Gupta, and subsequently fled the scene with the car. The vehicle's original owner, Dharmesh Kanani from Palitana, Bhavnagar, had given the car to his cousin Vishal Nakrani in Surat to sell. However, Nakrani did not sell the car at the car fair. Instead, he lent it to his friend Nimesh Vaghasia, who needed a vehicle to attend a wedding in Dindoli.
Nimesh Vaghasia, also involved in the diamond business, traveled to Dindoli with his friend and the accused, Ravi Vala. While stopped at a betel leaf stand, Vala requested to drive the car and left alone with the vehicle. It was during this time that the hit-and-run incident occurred. Upon returning, Vala did not reveal the truth to Vaghasia but claimed that the car had collided with a lorry. Together, they repaired the damaged car, spending between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000.
Ankit Gupta, the deceased victim, was his parents' only son and made a living driving a vegetable lorry. When news of the incident spread in the media, the car's original owner, Dharmesh Kanani, became aware of the situation and the accused Ravi Vala was subsequently arrested. Police have taken legal action against Vala and seized the car involved in the incident.
