Patidar Movement Leaders Alpesh Kathiriya and Dharmik Malviya to Join BJP

The political landscape in Gujarat is set to witness a significant shift as two key figures from the Patidar community, Alpesh Kathiriya and Dharmik Malviya, are slated to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday evening. The duo, known for their active roles in the Patidar reservation movement, will formally embrace the BJP in the presence of state president CR Patil.

Alpesh Kathiriya and Dharmik Malviya recently parted ways with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), sparking speculation about their next political move. Their decision to join the BJP is expected to inject new energy into the party's campaign for the upcoming elections.

Both leaders had previously supported AAP in the 2020 elections, a move that signaled a shift in Patidar community politics. However, their unsuccessful bids in the last assembly elections, with Kathiriya contesting from Varachha seat and Malviya from Olpad seat, led to a period of relative inactivity within AAP.

The joining ceremony is scheduled to take place at Mangarh Chowk in Varachha, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event. The move is seen as a strategic maneuver by the BJP to consolidate its position in Gujarat, particularly with an eye on the ongoing electoral activities.
