Surat Crime Branch Nabs Middleman in Mobile Phone Theft Ring

Surat: In a successful operation, the Surat Crime Branch has apprehended a key figure in a mobile phone theft ring operating in the city. The accused, identified as Abhishek alias Nago Omdas Nishad, was found to be involved in buying stolen phones from thieves and selling them at cheaper rates.

Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch team raided Ugat Bhensan Road and apprehended Nishad. During a search, eight mobile phones of different brands were found in his possession. Unable to provide satisfactory documentation for the phones, Nishad confessed to purchasing them at low prices from his associates.

Further investigation revealed that these associates would snatch and steal mobile phones from pedestrians across Surat and then sell them to Nishad for a fraction of their original cost. This operation also led to the resolution of two separate mobile theft cases registered at the Puna and Rander police stations.

While the Adajan police had already apprehended one of the thieves involved in these cases, Nishad's arrest has exposed the network's middleman. The Crime Branch is now taking further action against him and is investigating his associates to dismantle the entire operation.

This case highlights the importance of reporting stolen mobile phones to the police and avoiding purchasing phones from unknown sources. By working together, law enforcement and the public can combat mobile phone theft and ensure the safety of their belongings.
