Surat : City Buses Grounded for Uttarayan Safety
Surat : As the skies of Surat prepare for the vibrant chaos of Uttarayan, the city's pulse will temporarily shift from its usual rhythm. In a bid to prioritize safety during the kite-flying festival, the Surat Municipal Corporation has announced that both City Buses and BRTS buses will remain completely closed tomorrow, January 14th, 2024.
Safety First: Avoiding Accidents on Festive Streets:
This unique decision stems from concerns about potential accidents during Uttarayan. With the festive spirit often leading to exuberant kite-chasing, especially by youngsters, the BRTS corridors become susceptible to incidents. Jumping over railings and venturing onto the dedicated bus routes can pose serious risks, and the authorities aim to prevent any mishaps.
Limited Service Resumes on 15th:
While buses take a break on the 14th, residents won't be entirely without public transport options on the following day. On January 15th, both BRTS and City Buses will resume operations, albeit with reduced schedules. BRTS will run at 30% capacity, while City Buses will operate at 50% capacity. This move balances the need for public transport with the continued focus on safety.
A City on One Ticket:
Surat boasts a unique public transport system, where a single ticket grants access to both BRTS and City Buses, making it a convenient and affordable option for residents. Around 2.5 lakh citizens rely on this network daily, traversing 13 BRTS routes and 45 City Bus routes.
Prioritizing Safety, Preserving Tradition:
The temporary suspension of bus services is a bold but necessary step to ensure a safe and enjoyable Uttarayan for all. While it may cause some inconvenience, the city's proactive approach prioritizes the well-being of its residents, allowing them to celebrate the festival with peace of mind. As the kites take to the sky, Surat's streets will temporarily quiet down, but the spirit of the festival will remain undimmed, ready to erupt in joyous revelry when the buses return on the 15th.
