Surat : A major accident was averted in Surat on Friday when a car rammed into an electric pole near the gate of Hariom School in Punagam area. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident, which occurred shortly before school holidays.
The accident took place around [time] when the driver of the car lost control of the steering wheel and collided with the pole. The impact caused the pole to break and fall onto the wires, disrupting power supply in the area.
CCTV footage of the incident showed the speeding car veering off the road and hitting the pole. The force of the collision was so great that the pole snapped in half and came crashing down. People who were nearby ran for cover as the car came to a halt.
The driver, who escaped uninjured, immediately informed the authorities about the accident. DGVCL officials and police personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Power supply was immediately stopped as a safety precaution.
"We are thankful that no one was hurt in this incident," said a DGVCL official. "Our crews are working to remove the debris and restore power supply as soon as possible."
Pune Police have registered a complaint against the driver and are investigating the cause of the accident.
