Truck Gets Stuck in Surat Railway Tunnel, Causing Morning Traffic Mayhem
Surat : A large truck carrying cement caused chaos during rush hour in Surat on Friday morning after getting stuck inside the Garnala railway tunnel. The incident happened at 5 am when the truck disregarded the height restriction girder and attempted to pass through the tunnel, causing the barrier to break and trapping the vehicle.
With the main route from Varachha to the railway station blocked, traffic quickly backed up for over two kilometers, snaking its way past Poddar Arch. The situation was further complicated by ongoing metro and railway station construction work on Elif Road, which typically serves as a diversion point. As a result, commuters faced extensive delays and frustration.
"I was stuck in the jam for almost an hour," shared a Varachha resident. "It was terrible, especially during rush hour. There were people rushing to work, students going to school, everyone was just stuck."
Fortunately, police arrived promptly and coordinated the removal of the truck. They also worked to divert traffic and ease the congestion. By mid-morning, the situation had largely normalized.
This incident highlights the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and height restrictions. Ignoring such measures can not only cause damage to infrastructure but also disrupt the lives of countless individuals.
The Surat traffic police department has urged drivers to be vigilant and follow all traffic guidelines to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
